T8 LED Tubes with Emergency Battery Backup

As traditional T8 fluorescent lamps are phased out, upgrading to LED has become the clear choice for energy-conscious facilities. However, a consistent challenge has been compatibility with emergency battery backup systems, which often require separate expensive units that are bulky, difficult to install, and occupy valuable ceiling space.

This T8 Emergency Battery Backup LED Lamp solves that problem with a fully integrated all-in-one solution. Designed in the same size and shape as a standard T8, it operates like a typical LED lamp under normal conditions, then seamlessly switches to emergency mode during power loss, delivering reliable illumination without the need for external components.

Two versions are available to meet different application needs. The standard model installs easily using a ballast bypass 2 sided wiring setup. The UL924 compliant version(also installed using the same method) includes a dedicated tombstone socket kit and is engineered for installations that must meet strict safety and emergency lighting codes.

In the event of an outage, both versions deliver up to 90 minutes of emergency lighting at 30% lumen output, ensuring visibility for safe occupant egress and first responder access. A built-in test button allows for routine maintenance without shutting down power or tripping circuit breakers.

Wiring Instructions – LED T8 Lamp with Emergency Backup

Power Supply:
Connect the line (L) and neutral (N) wires from the 120–277V supply to the sockets on the input side of the lamp as shown. This side is typically labeled Input (L and N).
Switched Circuit:
Wire the line (L) through a wall switch to control the main operation of the lamp.
Emergency Backup Driver (BDD):
Connect the non-switched line (L) and neutral (N) wires directly to the emergency backup driver on the opposite end, ensuring continuous power to charge the internal battery. *For the UL924 model, only the Neutral line must be wired to both ends.
Socket Type Requirement:
Use non-shunted lamp holders only. Do NOT use shunted tombstones, as they can cause malfunction or failure of the lamp.

Notes:

This lamp is double-ended powered (L and N on one end, battery backup on the other).
The non-switched circuit ensures the battery remains charged even when the wall switch is off.
Always verify polarity and manufacturer wiring instructions before installation.

Warranty:

5-year limited system warranty standard
Warranty does not cover product failure due to an over-voltage event (power surge), improper dimmer or control installation (as this may cause damage to the internal driver), or inconsistent amperage in the circuit. For installations where power surge may be possible, Superior recommends installing additional surge protection at the fixture or electrical distribution panel.
